Did you know that candle scents have top, middle and base notes? Well, they do! And that is what makes a candle so unique and complex. The top notes are the smallest of the molecules so they are the ones that are lighter and airy and in all essence (see what I did there) are the amuse bouche of the meal. The middle notes are known as the heart notes. They are larger molecules and are usually the ones that are most prominent and the ones you can strongly identify. We will refer to them as the main dish. The bottom notes though are the ones that leave you wondering why you love this scent so much. They are complex. As the largest molecules they are normally the warm and sensual qualities such as sandlewood, vetiver, vanilla, amber and tonka bean. Whereas you came for the filet, you've left thinking about the death by chocolate cheesecake that was the unexpected dessert. Here are the top, middle and base notes of most of our scents.
